3M Innovative Outdoor Booth Features Live Demos of Cubitron II Family of Products in a Variety Cutting, Grinding, and Paint Removal Applications with Automotive Industries Top Stars
ST. PAUL, Minn. (November 3, 2015) – In the collision repair industry, heavy duty metalworking can take its toll on tools, abrasive products and especially the collision repair professionals who use them. Key steps of the disassembly process such as weld removal, grinding, panel cutting/sectioning and paint removal quickly wear down traditional abrasive discs and file belts, causing technicians to have to repeatedly stop their work and replace them. The limited cut rate and life of some abrasives mean technicians have to exert more effort and use more product to achieve the desired results.

This unique perspective has allowed 3M to objectively observe the day-to-day challenges that are facing today’s paint departments.
Aluminum Hygiene:
A Sensible Approach to Managing Aluminum Complications
By Shawn Collins, Senior Technical Service Engineer, 3M Automotive Aftermarket Division
Aluminum repairs in general are currently a hot topic and the subject of cross contamination between steel and aluminum is one of the first issues raised, and for good reason. The approach to controlling cross contamination is multi-faceted and requires a systemic plan.
First and foremost, it will be essential to separate the aluminum operations from the steel operations as much as possible. I say as much as possible because no matter how much effort you put into substrate separation, you will never be able to completely segregate these two processes. Many vehicles that have aluminum components also have steel components and vise versa, so complete separation is often impossible.
